Sony is letting you register for a chance to buy a PS5 for the holidays

Sony has launched a landing page where you can register for a chance to buy a PS5 later this year just in time for the holidays. The company says it will have a "limited quantity of PS5 consoles" for US customers through its PlayStation Store. It's probably a good idea to fill out the registration as soon as possible, and you'll need a PlayStation Network ID to do so. However, unlike its queuing system for distributing consoles, the selection process here doesn't feel like an entirely first-come, first-served situation.

Sony will start sending out invitations in November, with a slate of accessories, along with instructions on how to buy the PS5, if you'd like. And it says the invitees will be "based on past interests and PlayStation activities." It's unclear, but perhaps it will reward players in the long run, or those who have checked the correct boxes for its marketing emails. If you get an invite, you'll want to act quickly, as each will be open for a limited time.

This isn't the first time Sony has accepted registration to catch up on the PS5. But in mid and late 2021, console restocks have become increasingly rare. As we approach the holidays, we anticipate that retailers like Amazon and Best Buy may lock more stock behind their paid subscriptions (Prime and TotalTech, respectively) to encourage you to join . .

On the one hand, this is good, as it should keep bots away, as well as people who can only focus on flipping consoles for profit. So in other words, this planned console restock from Sony could be your best chance to secure a console without any additional subscriptions.

To make your checkout process as smooth as possible, be sure to check out the FAQ section at the bottom of the registration page so you know all the steps ahead of time.
