Russia attacked Ukraine: latest news and updates

On February 24, Russia invaded areas of Ukraine near its northern, eastern and southern borders. It is a significant military action that could have dire consequences, and as of February 28, more than 500,000 people have reportedly fled Ukraine to neighboring countries. Peace talks have started between the two countries on the Belarus border.

Tech companies have responded to the crisis in a variety of ways, focused on reducing misinformation online and trying to avoid putting Ukrainians at risk. For example, Google disabled Maps traffic data in Ukraine to protect citizens, while Facebook removed a Russian misinformation network. But Russia has blocked Twitter and partially blocked Facebook, which may limit information coming out of the country. And internet shutdowns in Ukraine have raised concerns about the potential for attacks on Ukraine's internet infrastructure.
