Google Keep's new Android widget makes it easy to check off items on your to-do list

Google is introducing a new widget for its notes and to-do list app Keep, which will let you put a single interactive note on your home screen. With it, you'll be able to check off items from a list, which can be handy for a to-do or grocery list.

While you can force one of Keep's existing widgets to show only one note using the tag system, doing so isn't as simple as selecting just one to display on your home screen. Also, Keep's existing widgets don't have the level of interactivity that Google promises with its new widgets; If you try to mark the checkbox, it will just open the app as a note widget instead of actually checking it.

Of course, many dedicated to-do list apps let you manage tasks using widgets. However, it's nice to see Google taking some care and making this feel like an obvious feature.

Google also says that new Keycap complications are coming to OS 3 and above, which will serve as shortcuts for creating notes and to-do lists.

The company hasn't said when these features will roll out, just that it's "soon," so keep your eyes on them.
