Amazon Prime is now getting expensive in Canada too

The price hike for Amazon Prime in Canada comes a few months after the company announced a price hike for US customers.

The price hike is the first for Canadian customers since the service was launched in 2013. Currently, Amazon charges $79 for an annual subscription or $8 monthly. After the price increase, Prime membership in Canada will cost $99 per year or $10 per month. Student membership will increase a dollar from $4 to $5.

Andrew Gouvia, a spokesman for Amazon Canada, told The Verge that the price change will take effect on April 8 for new customers and after May 13 for existing members, reflecting the price change at the time of their renewal. The news was first reported by the Toronto Star.

Earlier this year, Amazon announced that Prime membership in the US would increase from US$119 annually to US$139 per year. Monthly subscriptions in the US also increased from $13 per month to $15 per month.

In a statement this week, the company cited faster shipping, one-day delivery with minimal purchases on select items, expanded Prime services, and a growing library of Prime Video originals as expanding the value for members. ,
