You can finally send friend requests from the Nintendo Switch Online app

It's easier than ever to add someone from your phone as a friend to your Nintendo Switch account now that you can input a friend code into the Switch Online mobile app and send a request. An update in March made it easier for people to copy their code from the app to share with others. Now you can easily expand your friends list when you don't have your Switch handy.

The updated version of the mobile app on iPhone/iPad or Android (version 2.2 or higher) allows you to share your friend code as a URL for someone else to send a request or a QR code so they can receive Be there using just your camera.

One thing to be aware of with the update is that the app now requires at least iOS 14 for it to work, but luckily there is a long list of compatible devices.

Clunky codes have been a deterrent to Switch multiplayer since the system's inception and the Nintendo Network id used for the Wii U was a step behind the system. Nintendo has tried to make things easier by allowing you to link a Facebook or Twitter account to pull up. Suggestions based on who your friends are on those services, but not everyone is into tying all of their accounts together.
